Milestones
The Board of Directors held its organizing meeting: adopting bylaws and a conflict of interest policy, electing officers, and formally launching the work of the trust.
The Apex Town Council appointed the trust's five founding directors, including representatives of the Town of Apex and Wake County.
Articles of Incorporation were filed with the North Carolina Secretary of State, formally creating Peak City Land Trust as a North Carolina nonprofit corporation.
The Town Council voted unanimously to establish a town-sponsored community land trust as a cornerstone of Apex's affordable housing strategy.
Apex's Affordable Housing Plan identified a community land trust as a promising tool for creating permanently affordable homes in a fast-growing town.
What's next
Our application to the IRS for federal tax-exempt status is in progress.
The board is adopting the trust's formal mission, vision, and first land development program with the Town of Apex.
Planning is underway toward the trust's first properties — including potential town-owned land on South Hughes Street.
